Large Cottage
The Large cottage is lake-facing and comprises 4 bedrooms, a large lounge and dining area, bar and fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom has a double bed and is ensuite. There are 2 twin bed rooms with a shared bathroom. Lastly, there is a 4-bed room with an ensuite bathroom. Each bedroom has ceiling fans and mosquito nets. The kitchen is fully stocked with a gas cooker, fridge/ freezer, chest freezer, microwave, crockery, cutlery and glassware. There is dining seating both inside the main lounge area and on the khonde, including a high chair. Inside the lounge is a bar with bar stools and bar fridge, and plenty of additional, comfortable seating is spread out along our large khonde.
Maximum occupancy for the large cottage is 10 people.
Small Cottage
The Small Cottage is situated just behind the large cottage and comprises 2 bedrooms, a spacious lounge and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has 2 single beds. There is also a single sofa-bed in the lounge area. Both bedrooms share a bathroom. Each bedroom has ceiling fans and mosquito nets. The kitchen is fully stocked with a gas cooker, fridge/ freezer, crockery, cutlery and glassware. There is dining seating inside the main lounge area and on the khonde, guests can enjoy comfortable chairs overlooking the garden.
Maximum occupancy for the small cottage is 5 people.
Facilities & Activities
Both cottages are fully equipped with cooking and dining utensils, linen and towels. It is run on a self-catering basis; however, there is a cook available to help. Also available is a braii stand for guests’ meals, but charcoal must be self-provided.
DSTV (limited bouquet) is installed in both cottages – we do politely ask that you ensure that your children do not tamper with the equipment.
There is also a swimming pool available for guests’ use and for those who prefer to swim in the Lake, access to our palm strewn sandy beach is just a few steps away!
the Sights
From the cottage, guests can enjoy a beautiful view of Bird Island and our staff are happy to assist in arranging local boat transport out to the island. Also a short drive away is Cape Maclear where guests can visit the Lake Malawi National Park – a UNESCO world heritage site with hundreds of brightly coloured cichlid fish endemic to Lake Malawi. The town of Mangochi is roughly a 30 minute drive away where guests can also take in some local history of the area with a visit to Fort Johnston.

Getting to Chole Cottage
Directions
500 metres past Sun n Sand coming from Mangochi or before coming from Monkey Bay, turn at sign for Chole Cottage (also signs for Coco Beach & Illovo Guesthouse) and head through Ntonda Village towards lake. Continue to hang right until you reach a T-junction. Turn left and continue on dirt track until the last cottage on the right (couple hundred metres) – there is a small blue sign for Chole Cottage.
